STUDENT TELEVISION AWARDS 2010

RTS Student Awards 2010

The winners of the 16th RTS Student Television Awards 2010 have been announced. The ceremony was held on Friday 20th May at the National Media Museum in Bradford. The event, sponsored by Welcome to Yorkshire, was chaired by Director of BBC North, Peter Salmon and hosted by comedian Seann Walsh. It was attended by key television professionals, students and tutors.

Undergraduate and Postgraduate Awards were judged in four categories: Fiction, Entertainment, Factual and Animation. Entries for the Undergraduate group were judged on a regional basis and these regional winners were then put forward for national judging. The national juries selected three nominees per category and the winner was selected by secret ballot. The Postgraduate nominees were judged at a national level only.

The RTS Student Television Masterclasses were held prior to the awards ceremony. Students were able to benefit from the experience of respected industry professionals such as Carolyn Reynolds, Chief Executive, Lime Pictures (responsible for some of the best-known and popular drama on British television including Hollyoaks and Grange Hill); Gary Russell, Script Editor for Doctor Who; Glyn Middleton, Chief Executive, True North (executive producer of hard-hitting documentaries including Jon Venables: What Went Wrong? and Britain’s Underworld) and Charles Cecil, founder of Revolution Software, the creator of the multimillion seller Broken Sword series and consultant on titles such as The Da Vinci Code for Sony.
