Rights are an essential part of television and the media - but what are they really and how are they created? What is happening that changes what you can do with them? Question and discuss what forms a right and all about the rights issues for non broadcast programmes or publishing on any one of the platform from print to the iPhones...

To demystify Rights we will learn about the fundamentals - what is a right and why did they come into existence - and a brief look at UK and Europe law As most broadcasters have a fixed position on rights - we will be discussing and finding out about will look at rights which exist and the issues that need to be aired for non broadcast use - whether this is first corporate video you have produced or the short film on Vimeo which you wrote and directed.

The questioning and discussion could spread over the breadth of the media landscape, looking at new and traditional business models for cross platform new cross-border opportunities for content use and distribution.

Hubert Best is a recognised expert in international copyright law, he specialises in new media, particularly exploitation of audiovisual and music content in on-line and mobile environments. He is known as an authority on conflict of law and multi-jurisdiction issues. He also specialises in large media events, having worked on Athens Olympics 2004, Melbourne Commonwealth Games 2006 and Beijing 2008. His clients are based in the EU, USA, UAE, Australia, Canada, China and beyond. He lectures in France, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, UK and USA including at London and Stockholm Universities.

Demystify is a strand which starts by going back to the fundamentals before jumping to matters of current concern. It is aimed at helping you have the insight into the building blocks of the business or technology of television by hearing and questioning then discussing with experts both speakers and audience members.
