The RTS ROI 2013 Student Television Awards was held in RTÉ in Dublin on Monday 10th February 2014.  The RTÉ One Television Channel Controller,  George Dixon presented the Awards in the three categories, Animation, Factual and Fiction.

 

In the Animation category the Award went to “Innisfree”  and the recipients were  Don Carey and  the Irish School of Animation , Ballyfermot College of Further Education, Tutor Gareth Lee.

 

In the Factual Category the award went to “Sur La Pointe” and the recipients were Kim Comiskey and Niamh O’Shaughnessy and  The School of Media, Dublin Institute of Technology.  Tutors Denise Dunphy and Kevin Duffy.

 

In the Fiction Category the award went to “The Last Confession” and the recipients were Kevin Henry and Ciarán Gallagher and the School of Media, Dublin Institute of Technology. Tutor Denise Dunphy..

 

In his introduction to the awards Charles Byrne , Chair of the Republic of Ireland Center of the Royal Television Society,  congratulated the award recipients and thanked RTÉ  Television and Egg Postproduction for their support of the awards .

 

Marie Penston,  Chair of the awards Jury in introducing the excerpts from the nominated entries,    complemented the students on the very high standard of their work and yet another year of excellence. She hoped the awards would help them with their future careers.  

 

George Dixon, RTÉ 1 Television Channel Controller presented the RTS ROI awards to the successful Students and Institute tutors. In his remarks after the presentations  George said:

 

“There have been incredible changes in technology in the last 20 years since I started first working in television at the BBC.  However the most exciting aspect remains commissioning the brightest  ideas for every viewer.   With audiences accessing content through so many different platforms the need for compelling new programmes is greater than ever.  I am reminded that Tony Warren created Coronation Street for Granada in his early twenties, at the very start of an amazing career in our industry.   As you have shown tonight there is new talent emerging all the time and I wish you every success as you embark on your careers in television.”
