“Meet The Pro”: A Discussion with Michael Wilson, Managing Director, UTV Television
Thursday 27 March 2014
Doors open at 2pm - Event will begin at 2.30pm
Michael Wilson, Managing Director of UTV Television, having recently announced UTV’s intention to launch a new television station in Ireland from January 2015, is currently one of the busiest people working in the media industry in Ireland today. However long before he joined UTV, Michael was a student studying a BA in Communications followed by a postgraduate diploma in Broadcast Journalism, so how did he go on to become MD of Northern Ireland’s most popular television channel?
At this exclusive RTS Futures event Michael, who will be interviewed by RTS Futures NI Chairperson Brooke Allen, will talk about his career to date, how he made it into the world of television and how he thinks students and young people can stand out from the crowd in this digital age. He will also talk about his plans for UTV Ireland and give an insight into the world of news making in Northern Ireland.
Michael Wilson joined UTV in 2005 as Head of Television before being appointed Managing Director of UTV’s Television division in 2007. Michael is responsible for all in-house production and independent commissioning, as well as regulatory compliance. He also has responsibility for broadcast-related content on www.u.tv, UTV’s Ireland-wide website. Prior to his move to Belfast he was Head of Newsgathering for Five News. During this time he was responsible for coverage of Hurricane Katrina and the 7/7 bombings. He has been Managing Editor of Sky News Ireland and before that Senior News Editor for Sky News. He was head of the newsgathering team that won the BAFTA for coverage of the Soham Murders. He has significant regional experience and was Chief News Editor for Westcountry Television.
Car parking at UTV is limited and therefore we would advise you to make alternative parking arrangements if driving.
