Sky has released a teaser trailer for the new series of the acclaimed dark detective drama, True Detective.
Subtitled Night Country, the six-part series centres around the mysterious disappearance of eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station in Ennis, Alaska during a long winter night.
The men vanish without a trace, so it is left to Detectives Liz Danvers, played by Academy Award-winner Jodie Foster, and Evangeline Navarro, played by Kali Reis, to crack the case.
To do so, however, they will have "to confront the darkness they carry in themselves and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried beneath the eternal ice."
Also on the cast are Christopher Eccleston, Finn Bennett, Fiona Shaw, Isabella Star LaBlanc and John Hawkes. Anna Lambe, Aka Niviâna, June Thiele, Diane Benson, and Joel D. Montgrand will guest star.
Issa López serves as series showrunner, writer and director of all episodes.
The series was originally slated for a 2023 release, but in August it was pushed back to January. Reporting from the Code Conference, Deadline has quoted Casey Bloys, CEO of HBO and Max Content, confirming that the delay was due to the actors' and writers' strikes.
"We put it in January because I wanted to make sure that we had Issa [López] and Jodie Foster available to talk about it," Bloys said.
True Detective: Night Country will premiere in the UK on 15 January 2024.
