John Ryley Editor in Chief Sky News (2006-2023), Lyse Doucet Chief International Correspondent BBC News and Steve Rosenberg Russia Editor BBC News will discuss the economic, political, safety and other pressures on UK network news.
The lecture is run by the Royal Television Society and the Media Society. There will be a drinks reception after the lecture in the Portland Hall, sponsored by Sky. Proceeds of the lecture will go to the Steve Hewlett Scholarship Fund, which is chaired by Sir Clive Jones, and managed by him, Steve’s widow, Rachel Crellin and John Mair.
The fund was set up on the death of Steve in 2017 and to date eight Hewlett scholars have been helped through media/journalism courses at university.

The fund awards an annual scholarship to students from low income families. There have been eight to date and their current destinations.
2017 Oliver Cummins Hylton Graduated from Salford University in 2020 with a BA Hons in Broadcast Journalism and an MA in documentary film making. Oliver now has a successful career as a researcher in the television industry. He has worked on Channel 4’s Murder in the Alps, Supervets, Four in a Bed and BBC Three’s innovative docu series Freeze.
2018 Liam Warden Graduated with a BA Hons from Sheffield University in 2021. Shortly after leaving university he was offered a job at the Sky Sports Content Academy. In his first year he worked on 4 x Formula One Grand Prix, created videos for the Sky football team, worked at Wembley stadium and live tweeted stories for the Sky Sports newsroom. Liam has now graduated from the Sky content academy and is now working as an AP at Sky Sports.
2018 Georgia Keetch Graduated with a BA Hons Journalism at University of Sussex in 2021 and an MA in Media and Cultural studies in 2022. She was Editor of the student newspaper The Badger and is now working in the Communications department at Brighton City Council
2019 Oisin Tomas Ó Raghallaigh is continuing his studies in PPE at The Queen's University, Belfast
2020 Khadija Akhi Uddin graduated from Cardiff University in 2022 with a first class honours in Journalism, Communication and Politics. She is currently studying for an MSC in International Management.
2021 Lola Panic is about to finish her final year at Goldsmiths University London studying for a BA in Media and Communications. She currently has a job with a production company making advertisements and music videos.
2022 Liubov Slyusareva we are proud to be able to support Ukrainian film student Liubov - helping her continue her studies at The University of the Arts in London. Liubov is doing an MA in Film Direction. She is directing her own short film and working as an assistant director and DOP on other short films at the university this semester. This summer she hopes to work as an art director or assistant director on a new feature film. In addition, she has been the creative director for Audible of a series of audio books in Ukrainian.
2022 Catriona Walsh. Catriona has recently finished her second year at Queens University, Belfast studying for a BA in Broadcast Production. She is a regular contributor to BBC Radio Foyle and works as a social media presenter.
