Claudia Winkleman will return to the Scottish Highlands, as the smash hit murder mystery game show The Traitors is commissioned for series two.
The announcement comes after the success of the first series, which saw many twists and turns, and a very emotional final vote out.
The game begins as 22 strangers arrive at a Scottish castle, where Winkleman selects who will be the Traitors and the Faithfuls. If the Faithfuls make it to the end of the programme they will split the £120,000 jackpot between themselves, whereas the Traitor will keep it all to themselves.
Every evening, the Traitors gather to select which of the Faithful contestants they should ‘murder’, with the Faithfuls only finding out who has been selected when they fail to show up to breakfast the following morning.
The Faithfuls also have a chance to vote out suspected Traitors in regular Round Table discussions.
The contestant who receives the most votes is banished but must reveal if they are a Traitor or if the Faithfuls have just voted out one of their own.
Each day sees a series of challenges, which give players the chance to win immunity and add to the prize fund.
The game show proved to be a win for the BBC, as it was one of the biggest hits of 2022 with over 34 million views on BBC iPlayer.
Kalpna Patel-Knight, who commissioned the second series, said: “Last year’s ambitious and bingeable hit The Traitors with Claudia Winkleman is coming back with the brilliant team at Studio Lambert set to bring viewers another magnificent series full of drama and suspense.”
"We can certainly expect even more deceit and psychological games for the Traitors and Faithfuls.”
Winkleman, donning a hooded cape, celebrated the return on Instagram. Confirming the second series, she invites the general public to apply, but only if they can “betray those around” them, or “spot a liar”.
The first series of The Traitors and The Traitors US are both available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
