Sara Collins has adapted her debut novel, The Confessions of Frannie Langton, for a new series on ITVX, and the streamer has released some first look images.

The gothic novel is set in an opulent Georgian London where a young slave, Frannie Langton (played by Karla-Simone Spence) is accused of murdering her owners.

Born into a life of slavery, the drama follows Frannie from a Jamaican plantation to the grand Mayfair mansion of the renowned scientist George Benham (Stephen Campbell Moore) and his wife Madame Marguerite Benham (Sophie Cookson).

Frannie is gifted to Benham by the man who owns her, John Langton (Steven Mackintosh), and she is employed as a maid in the household.

When the Benhams are found murdered in their beds with Frannie lying next to Marguerite, Frannie is accused of murder. But she swears she couldn't have possibly killed the mistress she was devoted to.

When she is taken to prison, Frannie tries to piece together the events of that night. Though as she is seriously addicted to laudanum, her memory is extremely hazy.

Andrea Harkin (The Trial of Christine Keeler) directed the series on location in Yorkshire.

The Confessions of Frannie Langton will premiere on ITV’s new, free streaming service, ITVX, which launches later in 2022.
