Based on Kate London’s second novel and adapted by Patrick Harbinson, The Tower: Death Message will see Gemma Whelan (Game of Thrones) reprise her role as PC Lizzie Adama, alongside Emmett J Scanlan (Kin) as DI Kieran Shaw, Jimmy Akingbola (Bel-Air) as DC Steve Bradshaw, and Tahirah Sharif (The Haunting of Bly Manor) as DS Sarah Collins.

The four-part series, produced by Mammoth Screen and Windhover Films, opens with Lizzie returning to Farlow station, as her boss and former lover, DI Kieran Shaw, partners her with Arif Jahar (Michael Karim, The Bay). Their first call sees a domestic violence complaint brought against Mark Brannon (Charley Palmer Rothwell), who is accused of beating up his girlfriend, Georgina Teel (Rose Coduri) and terrorising their young daughter Skye.

Lizzie manages to persuade Georgina to tell the truth about her partner’s violence so that she and Arif can arrest him. However, when the case goes to court and Lizzie herself is cross-examined on the stand, the whole case hangs in the balance.

Meanwhile, the experienced Detective Sergeant Sarah Collins has transferred to Homicide Command, and her new boss DCI Jim Fedden is not welcoming. When he hands her the impossible challenge of reopening the case of a missing schoolgirl, Tania Mills, who disappeared on the day of Princess Diana’s funeral on 6 September 1997, Collins nevertheless throws herself into the case.

As she begins to uncover clues that previous investigations had overlooked, Sarah’s investigations take a further twist, meaning her and Lizzie’s paths cross again.

Forced to work together for the first time, the antagonistic relationship between the experienced Sarah Collins and the novice cop Lizzie Adama is central to The Tower II.

Filming will commence later this summer.
