The BBC Apprentice Hub is a new initiative, which will be opening for applications soon. The pilot scheme will be launching in the West Midlands, the region in the UK with the youngest population and a diverse talent pool. The BBC’s Apprentice Hub will grow skills in the creative sector by placing apprentices with local small and medium sized employers. It will provide a vocational training programme with a formal qualification at the end, accredited by an awarding body, giving the successful candidates a flexible approach to learning and getting work experience. The apprentices’ learning will be done through the BBC with a leading learning provider, but as part of this unique initiative, work experience will be gained in a business outside the BBC, in the creative industries within the West Midlands. This not only includes television and traditional media, it might also be in a company that does something like virtual reality, special effects, mobile technology or similar.
