Meet the team behind the award-winning series On the Edge, entirely written and directed by new talent. 

In this session Philip Trethowan and Ben Bickerton from Blacklight will tell you about this prestigious initiative and Samantha O'Rourke and Nadira Amrani will be on hand to talk about the film they made, Mincemeat, and what it was like to be a part of the 4Stories experience. 

4Stories is Channel 4’s new talent initiative which offers six first time writers and directors the opportunity to work with experienced producers at BlackLight television to create the On the Edge anthology. This year series two of On the Edge took home Best Emerging Talent at BAFTA Cymru and Best New Writer at the Edinburgh TV awards. 

The third series airs on Channel 4 on Sunday 7th November at 10pm and will be available on All4.

Nadira Amrani - Nadira Amrani is a British-Algerian Film and TV director. Her first short film Fly premiered at the BFI film festival in 2018. Most recently, Nadira directed Mincemeat a one-off drama for Channel 4 starring Aimee Lou Wood as part of the BAFTA-nominated On the Edge series. She is represented by Casarotto Ramsay and associates. 

Ben Bickerton & Phil Trethowan - BlackLight was formed in 2017 by Phil Trethowan and Ben Bickerton and is part of the Banijay Media Group, the world’s largest independent content creation group for television and multimedia platforms.  Phil and Ben met when making the critically acclaimed film Ellen together and both have over 20 years of experience making award-winning popular television drama and film such as Being Human and The Curse of Steptoe.  BlackLight have just completed making series 3 of their award-winning Channel 4 serial, On The Edge, a drama anthology series written and directed entirely by new talent.

Samantha O'Rourke - Samantha O’Rourke is queer, northern, writer-director based in North Wales. Current screen projects include short film 'Jelly' – Ffilm Cymru/BBC Wales/Mad as Birds & original comedy drama 'Mincemeat' for Channel 4/Blacklight. Sam was Writer on Attachment for Liverpool's Everyman Playhouse and is part of artist led project Future Forms at the Donmar Warehouse. Other theatre credits include Theatr Clwyd, Volcano Theatre, Boundless Theatre and Dirty Protest. She is currently developing her first feature supported by Ffilm Cymru.
