Bristol UNESCO City of Film
In 2017 Bristol was designated a UNESCO City of Film, a permanent status recognising the city’s achievements as a world-leader in the field of film and moving image. Bristol is one of 18 Cities of Film worldwide and a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN), a network of 246 cities working together towards a common mission for cultural diversity and sustainable urban development.
As a City of Film, Bristol is committed to the UCCN’s global objective: to place creativity and cultural industries at the heart of city development plans at a local level and to foster pro-active cultural engagement at an international level. Partnership with UNESCO places greater emphasis on a city’s contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which provide the framework for action, reporting and progress. UCCN member cities recognise culture and creativity as a major contributor to sustainable urban development and utilise the network to develop and enhance cities’ contribution to delivering against the UN SDGs.
Bristol UNESCO City of Film is led by Bristol City Council, Bristol Film Office, UWE Bristol, University of Bristol, Destination Bristol and The Bottle Yard Studios.
