When you’re on the receiving end or a witness to bullying in a heavily freelance industry, it's hard to know where to turn and who will listen to you. Often the choice feels like grin and bear it - or quit.

But when this behaviour goes unchecked, it pays a toll on our mental health.

This session is designed to be highly practical; our knowledgeable panel will help freelancers to recognise bullying when they see it and understand the steps they can take to raise their concerns without risking their jobs and careers. And it will examine what production companies could and should be doing to stamp out bullying.

Panel:

Tim Hunter joined BAFTA in 2008 and became the Academy’s first Director of Leaning and Events. Since then he has overseen the expansion of the Academy’s learning offer into a yearly calendar distinctive learning events.  He was at the helm of the new measures launched by BAFTA and the BFI to help tackle bullying, harassment and racism in the industry including an 'action list' that sets out the responsibilities of employers.

Delyth Thomas is a three times Bafta-nominated director working on primetime television drama with credits ranging from Silent Witness to The Story of Tracy Beaker.  A passionate advocate for a fair and inclusive industry, she was a key contributor to the Directors UK campaigns Who’s Calling the ShotsAdjusting the Colour balance and Insurance intrusion.   She's now one of the founders of The Call it! App, designed to monitor and prevent bullying.

Eileen Schofield is a solicitor at Birmingham-based employment law firm Schofield and Associates. She has vast experience of employment law, representing both employers and employees on issues of unfair dismissal, redundancy, discrimination, and whistleblowing.  The agency also provides advice and training on a range of issues including equality and diversity to the creative industries.
