Join RTS NW for an exclusive preview screening of episode one of new BBC drama series Boiling Point, followed by an interview with Writer/ Director Philip Barantini.
Barantini is an award-winning BAFTA and BIFA-nominated director who started his career in 1996 as an actor. His critically acclaimed second directorial feature BOILING POINT was nominated for four BAFTAs in 2022, including Outstanding British Film, and received 11 BIFA nominations. Its huge success led to the four-part series of the same name being commissioned by the BBC.
Barantini will share his journey in making the short film that preceded the feature film and the follow up series; he will share the path to commission; and also consider the role of director and writer, having come from an acting background. He will be interviewed by RTS NW Chair Cameron Roach and will be joined by BBC Commissioner Rebecca Ferguson.
The Boiling Point film depicted the nerve-jangling pressure of the hospitality industry in a single continuous take that received widespread critical acclaim and garnered over 40 award nominations around the globe. Stephen Graham starred as Andy, the rattled Head Chef, struggling to cope in a world teetering on the edge of chaos.
The series takes place eight months after Andy’s collapse, with Head Chef Carly (Vinette Robinson) trying to make a successful restaurant of her own without the help of her mentor Andy. Alongside her old kitchen crew, Carly must try to bring in customers, serve quality food, and make a profit, all while dealing with her own complicated personal life.
