Production Focus - The production team looks at how and why a programme/ series is made and the challenges of the process - a set of lessons (good and bad) learnt - with a lot of discussion on the "nuts and bolts" of making television

This Production Focus looks as the logistics and planning of the coverage of the University Boat race on 26th March. The team from BBC Sports and SIS live will explain and then discuss how they will be make this national events come to life. The challenges of having a stage which is over 4 miles long and winds through West London will be described and discussed.

The University Boat race is a sporting event which is uniquely British Dating from 1829; and on Television since 1938 -  this university boat race is billed as "the world's longest surviving sporting challenge". Competitors row a grueling four-and-a-quarter-miles along the Thames from Putney to Mortlake, often against waves and bitter winds, in their quest for the coveted title. This provides a challenge for the production team - covering the build up the start which is never on time, 20 minutes of action and then the celebrations and disappointment.

This Production Focus concentrates on the "behind the scenes" planning and how multi OB event is coordinated for domestic and international audiences.

Paul Davies (Executive Producer BBC Sport ), Dave Chapman (Engineering Manager SIS live ), Jenny Hackett (Production Manager) and their teams talk of the months of planning and organisation that go into producing this uniquely British sporting event, one of the most exciting of the sporting calendar.

Then there will be Q&A and discussion about the techniques and issues of making a programmes from the tow paths of London .
