Series Synopsis

Airing on Britbox UK from the 10th February, comes the crime drama with a unique twist, Magpie Murders, inspired by the critically acclaimed novel from Anthony Horowitz CBE. Named by The Sunday Times as “a magnificent piece of crime fiction” and “an ingenious novel within a novel”, Magpie Murders topped multiple best-seller lists in 2016 and has now been adapted for screen. This intriguing series is a murder mystery within a murder mystery, spanning two time periods (1950s and contemporary Britain) with cast portraying multiple characters in different literary dimensions.

Susan Ryeland (Lesley Manville) is the editor for infamous, best-selling mystery writer Alan Conway (Conleth Hill). When she receives an unfinished Conway manuscript, featuring his hugely popular detective Atticus Pünd ( Tim McMullin) but no sign of the author himself, she is set on a path with little idea that it will change her life forever. Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread, Let Him Go, Mum) heads a stellar cast including veteran British stage and screen actor Tim McMullan (Foyles War), BAFTA nominated Daniel Mays (1917, Line of Duty), Pippa Haywood (Bodyguard, Bridgerton); Michael Maloney (The Crown, The Trial Of Christine Keeler) and double Olivier award-winning Conleth Hill (Game of Thrones), for the six part series which is directed by Peter Cattaneo (Military Wives, Rev, The A Word, The Full Monty), and produced by Eleventh Hour Films for MASTERPIECE and BritBox UK.
