Going undercover as a journalist can be dangerous. It can be exciting. And it can uncover the stories that impact governments, challenge elections, and save lives.

But while bravery and tenacity are vital, the journalists who take on these stories are masters of research. We hear from those who have brought us some of the most pertinent stories of recent years. The stories they've worked on range from the nation-shaking revelations of Cambridge Analytica’s political influence to the facts of life in authoritarian societies, and confront the damning allegations of sexual abuse by R Kelly and the grim realities of stalking and harassment faced by young women in this country. In this session, our panel of award-winning journalists will examine the range – and the reach – of investigative journalism at its very best.

Ben Zand, journalist and documentary Maker – R Kelly: Sex, Girls and Videotapes

Ed Howker, Channel 4 News – Cambridge Analytica

Sirin Kale, Associate Editor for Vice Media – Unfollow Me – examining domestic and gendered violence in the UK

David Henshaw, Founder, Hardcash Productions – Launched the multi award-winning production company in 1992

Livvy Haydock, Investigative film maker - Inside Britain’s Black Market
