A Joint Event with SMPTE UK

Discover how IMF will benefit broadcast and online workflows just as it has changed existing subtitling and dubbing pipelines for Film Localisation.

This meeting starts with SMPTE Standards VP Bruce Devlin (Mr MXF) giving a quick IMF Primer /101  then Steve Fish looks at IMF in Turner Internationals Television business and finally Andy Lampard on IMF for Film Localisation.

The main item is a look at how the first SMPTE Specification - on IMF for Broadcast and online has progressed and how it will become part of many Broadcaster and production companies workflows.

Finally, there will be a discussion on how IMF is working for a number of different parts of the industries- and what the next steps are.

This is a rapidly changing story - and we will bring experts from DPP and SMPTE to tell of the achievements to date including at NAB - and to demystify what IMF Is - and why objects matter. and how the work of the DPP with SMPTE has got the agreement and cooperation of UK European and N American broadcasters - another UK led success.
Thus the precise content is likely to change

Speakers

Bruce Devlin is well known in the media industry for his work on files and systems; particularly MXF and IMF. With over 3 decades of experience, his technology presentations, especially his educational Bruce’s Shorts videos (search Google) are a go-to resource for CFOs, CTOs and students alike. Bruce has designed everything from ASICs to algorithms. He tweets as @MrMXF, he literally wrote the book on MXF and is now responsible for standardisation activities at SMPTE.

Bruce Devlin:

  • alumni of Queens’ College Cambridge England
  • fellow of the SMPTE and member of the IABM and DPP
  • recipient of SMPTE’s David Sarnoff Medal & the IMIS Achievement award
  • keen to educate the world about media technology
  • and a rider of bicycles (occasionally quickly)

Steve Fish is VP Media & Technology Architecture, Turner Broadcasting responsible for leading the strategic direction of the content supply chain technology solutions across the Turner International group, to balance efficient operations with high agility ready to service new product offerings.

Andy Lampard is the Head of Research and Development at Motion Picture Solutions.

With a career spanning more than a decade in the cinema industry, his range of experience  mirrors the digital transformation of the industry itself, starting out in traditional projection and engineering, transitioning through production and mastering  and latterly in software development, with his input helping directly to fulfil many of the promised benefits of digitisation on today's content workflows.

At Motion Picture Solutions, Andy's work has helped create products for content delivery to cinemas as well as the market-leading KDM platform used for theatrical digital rights management worldwide. He has also been instrumental in facilitating the adoption of new and emerging technologies in post-production, all of which have maintained MPS's position at the technological forefront of the industry.

In May MPS was identified by the London Stock Exchange Group as one of it's 1000 Companies to Inspire Britain
