An Evening with Brian Cuff: “When I’ve retired, I’ll have plenty of time to rest “ “Oh no you will not”

Just a few of the things that can occupy a retiree’s time including pre-war and early post-war TVs, some bits of Mechanical Music and some model engineering.

An Evening with Brian Cuff: “When I’ve retired, I’ll have plenty of time to rest “ “Oh no you will not”

Just a few of the things that can occupy a retiree’s time including pre-war and early post-war TVs, some bits of Mechanical Music and some model engineering.

For those geeky types with an appetite for electronics, engineering and musical gadgets going back many decades, Brian Cuff will proudly present some amazing reconstructions and renovations of TV, Radio, Disc and Cylinder players.  Each has been lovingly and painstakingly rebuilt, many right down to component level, with the bare minimum of information available, but back to their original state.  The evening promises to be a lot of fun with anecdotes, cheery banter a stunning array of beautiful working examples that will simply amaze. Here's just a few:

1             A couple of pre-war (1937) TVs working, displaying 405 line pictures.

2             An Edison Amberola playing 4 minute cylinders.

3             A HMV Lumiere gramophone playing (perhaps) 78 RPM records

4             A selection or records including Diamond Disks and Cinema “Sep Disk” 16” LPs!

5             A re-creation of a pre-war GEC BT8161 vision chassis

6             A 1926 ST&C 44004 “Supersonic Set” early superhet radio

7             A partially restored chassis from a Pye 12C, the TV that was banned for security reasons.

8             Here’s one I didn’t do earlier – a pre-war TV chassis “as received”

9             A couple of stationary steam engines, one in bits!!

There will be NO POWERPOINT SLIDES but a great selection of photos and video of his incredible collection back home too. Promises to be a very unique evening, and worth making a very special effort to attend

A light buffet will be available.
