From Happy Valley and Gentleman Jack to Last Tango in Halifax and Scott and Bailey, writer and director Sally Wainwright has been responsible for some of our most loved television drama series over the past two decades.
She started her career as a playwright and as a scriptwriter on The Archers, honing her craft on Coronation Street, before creating her first original drama At Home with the Braithwaites in 2000.
A multitude of hits and awards followed, and today Sally is one of the UK’s most respected figures in drama production, renowned for her skill in creating thrilling drama from the minutia of life and her ability to write effortless, nuanced dialogue as it is spoken. In recent years she has turned her hand to directing her work as well as writing it, making her directorial debut with Happy Valley followed by To Walk Invisible and Gentleman Jack.
