The annual Breaking into Media event at Plymouth University is run by the RTS Devon and Cornwall Centre in partnership with the Media Innovation Network. There are places for 300 media students from universities and colleges across Devon and Cornwall, including Exeter University, University College Falmouth, University of Plymouth, Plymouth College of Arts, Cornwall College, Truro College, City College Plymouth and University College Plymouth Marjon.

It’s a chance for media students to get advice from industry professionals on how to get that all-important first break in the competitive media world and to celebrate real achievement through the centre's Student Television Awards.

The day starts with a panel-based discussion with local employers drawn from BBC South West, Televisionary, Blanchard Media, Western Morning News and Twofour. There are also advice sessions and opportunities for one-to-ones with local employers such as Silverstream, Radio Plymouth, Logo Design, Plymouth Evening Herald, Original Concept, Fruition Design, Sigma Marketing, Fuel Communications and Sound View Media.

The day wraps up with another panel-led session on The Hungry Sailors, a concept-to-screen analysis of how the successful ITV daytime series was brought to air. This features discussion between members of the production team from local indie Denham, who will also take questions from local media students in the audience.
