Come celebrate 90 years of the RTS with a day of events.

This autumn the Royal Television Society reached its 90th anniversary. Meaning that for 90 years, the RTS has been promoting the art and science of television with its prestigious awards, educational bursaries and packed diary of events across the UK. It all started with an inaugural lecture at Leeds University in 1927. So, it seems fitting that we celebrate the anniversary here in Yorkshire. And we will be doing it in style with an afternoon and evening of events including Inside the Archives tours, a keynote lecture by Melvyn Bragg, and the RTS 90th anniversary Quiz.

Inside the Archives: afternoon (various slots available)

A rare chance to meet archive experts from ITV, the BBC, the British Film Institute, the Yorkshire Film Archive and FOCAL (Federation of Commercial Audio/Visual Libraries) and to explore the ITV Archive.
See the hidden gems of television history and find out how they are being preserved for future generations. This is an extraordinary opportunity for anyone interested in TV. See below for how to book your half hour tour (entry is free, but must be booked in advance via Eventbrite).

Melvyn Bragg On TV: 6.00pm – 7.30pm

Join us at ITV Leeds Television Centre for an early evening lecture by Lord Bragg. The great broadcaster, author and parliamentarian talks about the continuing and future impact of TV. There will also be an opportunity for audience members to ask questions and join in the discussion. See below for how to book your free ticket (must be booked in advance via Eventbrite). Doors open from 6pm, event 6.30pm – 7.30pm. Bar available.

The 90th Anniversary Quiz: 7.30pm – 9.30pm

We finish the day with a chance for a drink or two and some healthy competition. RTS Yorkshire - with the help of the Archivists - invites teams from across the region to do battle over 90 years of TV trivia and knowledge. Teams should consist of between 4 and 10 of your brightest sparks and the winners will be awarded a very special trophy. Again entry is free, but tickets must be booked in advance via Eventbrite (see below for details). Doors open 7.30pm, quiz 8.00 – 9.30pm. Bar available.
