The Royal Television Society Thames Valley Centre will host its second TVC Awards at their 29th Winter Ball at Wokefield Estate, Mortimer, Reading. This year seventeen outstanding nominees have made it through to the shortlist in categories consisting of Community Improvement, Young Technologist, Production/Craft, Technology/Support and Media Hero.

 

Tony Orme, Chair RTS TVC said, ‘The quality of the award entries this year has been outstanding. These awards aim to focus on people within our industry, people who make a real difference – be that individuals or companies. This year our judging panels will have some very tough decisions to make! We wish all our finalists the very best of luck.’
 
The award winners will be announced at the Winter Ball on Friday 29 November 2019.

RTS Thames Valley Award - Young Technologist - 2019

Introduction

This RTS region has a history steeped in technological advances for the broadcast and media industries. Some of the most influential advances and innovation the industry has ever seen have taken place in this area. 

Young people are crucial to the development of our industry and they continue to make significant contributions to the international scene. Whether its an advance in research and development or optimisation of critical processes, we need to recognise and applaud these efforts.

Thames Valley RTS understands the significant contribution young technologists play in the future of the broadcast and media technical community and therefore wish to recognise exceptional talent.

Judging Criteria

Based on the information given in the section “Application Format”, judges will be looking for one or more of the following from the individual nominated;

  1. Contribution made to a project
  2. Uniqueness of the technology or process developed
  3. Research procedure and conclusions drawn
  4. Contribution to the broadcast and media industries
  5. Future development possibilities
  6. Other worthy technology-based contributions not specified above

RTS Thames Valley Award - Community Improvement -2019

Introduction

Modern business benefits greatly from working with the community. As well as helping companies build better teams and work more effectively together, it also encourages greater social responsibility and helps to build better communities.

Just a brief look on social media shows how much is already going on within the broadcast industry. Whether it’s bringing an understanding of media/tv/technology to those who might otherwise miss out, such as demonstrations at schools, encouraging video making, providing better media access for the sick or underprivileged.

Thames Valley RTS recognises the importance businesses play in community support and are offering an award for best “Community Improvement”.

Judging Criteria

Based on the information given in the section “Application Format”, judges will be looking for the following from the individual, team or company nominated;

  1. Level of media/tv/technology education for sick and/or underprivileged
  2. Community volunteer work
  3. Level of engagement with schools and local interest groups
  4. Alternative community contributions not listed above 

RTS Thames Valley Award – Production/Craft  - 2019

Introduction

Our industry lives and thrives on the creative and production talents of the people who put together the stories and bring them to life. Behind the camera, teams and individuals, all highly skilled at what they do, strive to make this happen. 

The skills of these people need recognition and nurturing to provide encouragement for even greater achievements in the future.

This award will go to a team or individual to recognise the huge contribution these people make. We could be awarding the honour to a complete programme, an audio, video or software achievement. Indeed anything that elevates the power and the quality of content to higher levels.

Judging Criteria

Based on the information given in the section “Application Format”, judges will be looking for one or more of the following from the individual, team or company nominated;

  1. Contribution made to a project, video, audio or software.
  2. Clarity of the contribution made by the team or individual
  3. Quality of the end result
  4. Specific creative or technical skills that were required to make it happen
  5. Other qualities applied to production/craft activities not identified above

RTS Thames Valley Award - Media Hero - 2019

Introduction

With our focus on cutting edge technology its often easy to forget about other team members who are not involved in technical advances, sales and marketing. Our Best Media Hero category acknowledges and recognises this group of unsung media heros. 

The nominee doesn’t have to be technical, but must demonstrate something they have done, or continue to do, that helps make their organisation stand out. It might be supporting other members of the team, so they can do their own jobs better or going the extra mile to help improve customer satisfaction.

Thames Valley RTS understands the significant contribution all members of a business play in the broadcast and media technical community and are offering an award for best “Media Hero”.

Judging Criteria

Based on the information give in the section “Application Format”, judges will be looking for the following from the individual nominated;

  1. Uniqueness of the personal contribution made
  2. Benefits to the business or industry as a whole
  3. Contribution to the broader broadcast and media community
  4. How this person may grow and develop further

RTS Thames Valley Award – Technology/Support - 2019

Introduction

This award goes to those companies or individuals that go the “extra mile” to ensure technology and systems perform to the highest levels of expectation. We are in an industry that depends upon technology and complex systems, when they don’t perform as needed the consequences are serious with lost production time or blank screens. High levels of quality support underpin end user satisfaction.

This award will go to a company or individual that can demonstrate they have exceeded expectations and have earned the respect of those they serve. 

All parts of the broadcast and media chain qualify for this award from acquisition, production, through management to delivery. 

Judging Criteria

Based on the information given in the section “Application Format”, judges will be looking for one or more of the following from the individual, team or company nominated;

  1. Specific evidence of the support provided and the subsequent benefits or achievement
  2. An example of an event or activity that benefited from the support
  3. The unique contribution made by the individual, team or company
  4. Recognition from the recipient that the support was significant and appreciated
  5. Background to how the support was initiated and implemented
  6. Other worthy support activities not specified above

Dates

The following dates apply;

  1. 1st August 2019 - Invitation for submissions of applications
  2. 18th October 2019 – Deadline for submissions
  3. 25th October 2019 – Shortlist will be announced
  4. 29th November – Winners will be announced at the Thames Valley RTS Winter Ball

Each applicant will need to provide the following information in their submission;

  1. Company / Individual Name
  2. Contact name, email address, and telephone number
  3. Website address or alternative source of reference content
  4. A written submission of no more than 500 words advising why you think your company should win the category “Best Community Improvement Business”
  5. Applications should be submitted online at https://awardsentry.rts.org.uk/entrant.
