The winners for this year's RTS NW Student Awards have been announced.
The winner in the Animation category is the stop animation film ‘Allotment’, created by Karla Engstrom and Samuel Carson, from Manchester Metropolitan University. In the Comedy and Entertainment Category, the winning programme is ‘Login’ created by Dan Finch from the University of Salford. The winning entry in the Drama Category this year is awarded to ‘Dog Factory’, by Brody Salmon and Izzy Brenan, from The Manchester Film School. In the Factual Category, the award goes to ‘Taking Control: Sex Work as a Modern Industry’, from Sophie Coupe at The University of Salford.
The judges commented on the exceptional standard of entries this year, and the creatives behind the winning films will have the opportunity to network with key industry stakeholders in the North West over the coming months.
Special Craft Awards have also this year been awarded to Gioia Dalosso Hemnell for their camerawork in Silent Epidemic; Aiden Vincent & Alex Hargreaves for their Editing in Running a Marathon; Ronan Bartley & Nathan Brown, for Production Design and Editing in Keeping It Real; Juliette Homes, for the writing of Cabin Under the Diamond Sky; Owen Cull & Phoenix Thompson for the Sound and Production Design on Six Weeks in Cairo; Alina Akbar for Camera and Editing on A to D.
Cameron Roach, RTS NW Chair commented ‘It’s important we celebrate the excellence of individual craft skills as people take a foothold in our industry. We were overwhelmed with the quality and passion that was exhibited in this year's student entries, it demonstrates strongly that there are terrific, creatively ambitious graduates emerging ready to connect and grow in the sector here in the North West. We look forward to continuing to work closely with the respective academic institutions over the coming year’.
The Student Awards rounds off a series of industry facing events in the North West this Spring from the RTS, including the Student Networking Day hosted by Dock 10 at Media City.
