RTS East Anglia Awards 2001
Awards 2001 was celebrated at a gala eveningat Rainthorpe Hall, Norwich on Saturday 18th May 2002, by kind permission of Mr & Mrs Alastair Wilson. Awards 2001 is the seventh Awards event organised by the RTS East Anglia Centre, the previous events being held in 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000. Awards 2001 was hosted by Patrick Anthony and Tricia Williamson.
Twelve awards were made by The RTS East Anglia Centre to recognise excellence in a wide range of programme making expertise.

The Mike Read Award is named in honour of Anglia's distinguished Controller of News and loyal supporter of this Centre. It goes to the best newcomer to television journalism, that is to someone who has had less than 3 years experience in the medium.
The judges were encouraged to see a good number of entries for this category. Three entries took their attention. The judges identified long-term potential for Parveen Sodhi, but the winner, with a confident and engaging manner, was David Whiteley of BBC Look East.

The judges were impressed with the overall high standard in this category. Dick Meadow's programme about 'The End of the Pier Show at Cromer' was very highly regarded, but, for its impact, its commitment and bravery in dealing with a difficult subject and asking difficult questions, the winner was 'Cover Story : Living Doll' from Ron Trickett and Lindsay Brooke of Anglia Television.
