The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse

BBC One, 4.55pm

Charlie Mackesy's comfort blanket of a picture book is brought to wonderful, wintery life in this faithfully animated short film.

The story is simple: a young boy (played by newcomer Jude Coward Nicoll) teams up with the titular trio of animals (voiced by Tom Hollander, Idris Elba and Gabriel Byrne) to find his way home. But along the way, they have much to teach each other about life.

Royal Carols: Together at Christmas

ITV, 7.00pm

The Princess of Wales returns to Westminster Abbey to host another Royal carol service, organised to honour the selfless efforts of communities across the country.

The King and the Queen Consort will be joining speakers Dame Kristin Scott Thomas, Hugh Bonneville and Kadeena Cox. And performing the carols is the world-renowned Abbey choir, who may or may not be joined by the Princess of Wales herself, having wowed us on the piano accompanying Tom Walker last year.

The Great Christmas Bake Off

Channel 4, 8.25pm

The tent is decked with holly and tinsel and the doors are opened for another bunch of celebrities turned battling bakers.

Gaby Roslin, Sir Tony Robinson, Miquita Oliver, Terry Christian and Claire Sweeney all fancy their chances, as they should when Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith are in such a generous mood. But there can only be one Christmas Star Baker.

Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Christmas Fishing

BBC Two, 8.40pm

Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse take us all the way to Norway in a special episode of their always wholesome series Gone Fishing. There they are casting for exotic fish against a stunning backdrop Mortimer compares to the world of Lord of the Rings.

Along with the heart-healthy banter and reflection, Bob has sorted some unique accommodation and they are joined by a very special guest from their past.
