Marie Antoinette
BBC Two, 9pm
From the writer of The Favourite, the film that won Olivia Colman her Oscar, comes a new period drama offering a fresh take on the young queen Marie Antoinette, who is forced to marry the Dauphin of France and produce an heir.
In the dark, manipulative court of Versailles, the fate of the teenage queen’s child will set the country on fire.
Travel Man: 96 Hours in Rio
Channel 4, 9pm
Comedian and Travel Man Joe Lycett takes Stephen Mangan (The Split) out to Brazil’s pulsing capital, Rio de Janeiro, for a festive supersized mini-break over four days.
Starting their trip with a visit to Christ the Redeemer, the pair then head to one of Rio’s oldest restaurants, and sample its speciality, an all-you-can-eat barbeque. They also attempt paragliding, before heading to the legendary Copacabana beach to learn the foot/volleyball hybrid sport known as Futevoli.
Antiques Roadshow: Toys & Childhood Special
BBC One, 8pm
From a 4000-year-old pull-along toy to the first personal computer consoles based on the arcade game Pac-man, teddy bears to Star Wars action figures, this toy special of Antiques Roadshow hosted by Fiona Bruce will look how all our favourite toys have shaped our childhood.
Broadcaster Jonathan Ross will take viewers through his toy collection, which is one of the largest in the UK, and reveal what sparked his passion for Japanese action figures.
