A teen hero plunges to the realm of the dead in a manga adaptation, whereas Dynamo tries to get there the hard way.
Dynamo is Dead
Thursday
Sky Max, 9.00pm
This special sees magician Dynamo try and begin afresh by burying the past, literally.
Having previously walked on the River Thames and levitated above the Shard, the performer will now attempt to bury himself alive. Beforehand, he will reach out to famous faces for frank conversations. Expect to hear from Cara Delevingne, Tyson Fury, Demi Lovato, and Steven Bartlett as Dynamo explores the depths of his mental health.
The stunt is to be performed live, leaving no room for error. If you’re squeamish, it might be best to look away.
Something Undone
Thursday
ITVX
In the world of this drama, Jo (Madison Walsh) is the foley artist for true crime podcast Unsettled, crafting the noises that bring bloody murders to life. Eventually, she realises that the sounds being made by her are, in fact, not being made by her: they’re coming from somewhere in the house.
To make matters worse, this isn’t any old house. The country residence used to belong to Jo’s mum, who suffered from schizophrenia before dying by suicide. Jo is sent down a rabbit hole that sees her immersed in a haunting family secret.
Yu Yu Hakusho
Thursday
Netflix
In this adaptation of the manga series, Yusuke Urameshi is about to find out that not even dying will stop you going to work. After the teenager is killed trying to save a child from a car accident, he is made a ‘Spirit Detective’. It is now his responsibility to investigate yokai, or agents of the supernatural. That is, if he can survive his training.
When Urameshi returns to the land of the living as a sleuth, he will need all his strength to fend off any number of demons.
Reacher
Friday
Prime Video
The world’s beefiest self-proclaimed hobo returns for a second series. This series adapts Lee Child’s Reacher novel Bad Luck and Trouble, whereas series one brought to life Killing Floor, Child’s (and Reacher’s) debut.
On his second rodeo, Reacher finds that members of his old military police unit, the ‘Special Investigators’, are being picked off one by one. Serinda Swan (Smallville) and Shaun Sipos (Krypton) are among the new cast, joining the show as fellow Special Investigators Karla Dixon and David O’Donnell.
Together, they need to figure out who’s coming to get them. In trademark Reacher style, the series promises a mix of deductive reasoning and helicopters being blown up by a bazooka.
Carol & the End of the World
Friday
Netflix
If you knew the world was going to end, you’d probably run wild in the streets, right? That’s what this new adult animation supposes we’d all do, with one exception: Carol.
An administrative assistant, Carol is content to wind down the clock on what little time the Earth has left from the familiar monotony of an office job. Voiced by the deadpan Martha Kelly (Euphoria), the show is “a love letter to routine”, according to creator Dan Guterman.
