This week in TV, struggling couples undergo therapy to save their relationship, Sue Perkins goes on a big American road trip and Ricky Gervais explores grief in the final series of After Life.

Couples Therapy 

Monday

Viewers get to take an intimate look into the hidden world of other people’s relationships. 

The series follows four couples as they undergo weekly therapy with therapist Dr Orna Guralnik in an attempt to save their relationships.

Filled with emotional struggles and successes, the couples face honest confrontations with themselves and each other.

Rules of the Game

Tuesday 

BBC One, 9pm 

Maxine Peake plays Sam, a ruthless and cold COO of sportswear company Fly, who has climbed to the top of the male dominated career ladder by taking no prisoners. 

However, when newly hired HR director Maya (Rakhee Thakrar) joins the company, she has a very different mindset and is determined to unpick the toxic work culture that has been allowed to persist. 

Soon both Sam and Maya are asking questions about the mysterious death of a young girl at a company party years ago. 

As dark secrets are revealed, another sudden tragic death leads to Sam facing questions from the police, Maya, the company, and her own family.

The Bay

A third series of the coastal crime drama sees newcomer DS Jean Townsend (Marsha Thomason) thrown straight into the deep end when a body is found in the bay on her first day on the job. 

DS Townsend needs to prove herself to her team and try to understand the grieving family if she has any hope of solving the murder of the aspiring young boxer. 

To add to the pressure, DS Townsend’s new blended family are struggling to settle into the town of Morecambe, and her hope for a fresh start might not be as easy as she thought. 

Daniel Ryan, Erin Shanagher, Thomas Law, and Andrew Dowbiggin will return to reprise their roles.

After Life 

Friday 

Netflix

The final series of the dark comedy will once again follow local journalist Tony (Ricky Gervais) as he tries to deal with his grief following the death of his beloved wife Lisa (Kerry Godliman).

Tony is ready to start a new chapter, but that won’t be easy with grief as a constant companion.

Series three will see Tony dealing with unresolved feelings following the death of his father and the struggle of a budding romance with nurse Emma (Ashley Jensen).

Sue Perkins’ Big American Road Trip

Sunday

Sue Perkins is packing up a campervan and travelling across California and Colorado, undergoing an adventure filled journey along the Pacific Coast Highway to Yosemite. 

During her trip she meets people who have forgone living a settled life in favour of living a nomadic lifestyle in campervans.

Perkins speaks to one of the stars of the film Nomadland, who uses his YouTube channel to show people the realities of nomadic living.
