The trailer for HBO and Sky Atlantic's highly anticipated satirical miniseries, White House Plumbers, shows a series of mishaps and bungled burglaries.
From the producers of Succession and Veep, White House Plumbers follows the real-life events of the Watergate scandal. The drama will focus on the men behind the burglaries who went to extreme lengths in the hopes of getting US President Nixon re-elected.
Woody Harrelson (Cheers) and Justin Theroux (The Leftovers) star as ex-CIA and FBI agents E. Howard Hunt and G. Gordon Liddy, who were originally hired in 1971 to investigate the Pentagon Papers leak. The series will show the pair work their way up to Nixon’s presidential re-election committee, before detailing the behind-the-scenes of the lesser-known events leading up to one of America’s biggest political scandals.
The newly released trailer for the limited series hints at what is to be expected from the largely unsuccessful pair, saying: “No names were changed to protect the innocent. Because nearly everyone was found guilty.”
Director David Mandel says: “In most of the Watergate movies ever made, basically the burglary is the opening scene. You see flashes of the burglary, and then it’s people in the Oval Office, Nixon, and the reporters at The Washington Post.
"This is a limited series where it is 100 percent about the burglary. We’re going to meet these guys before the burglary, and we’re going to see the effects of the burglary on their lives. This is the story that none of these other stories bothered with, to some extent.”
Starring alongside Harrelson and Theroux will be Lena Headey (Game of Thrones), Judy Greer (Arrested Development), Domhnall Gleeson (About Time), Ike Barinholtz (The Mindy Project), Kathleen Turner (The Kominsky Method), Kim Coates (Sons of Anarchy), Yul Vazquez (Midnight, Texas), Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), David Krumholtz (10 Things I Hate About You).
Nelson Ascencio (Mad TV), Tony Plana (Ugly Betty), Zoe Levin (Bonding), Liam James (2012), Alexis Valdés (Un rey en la Habana), Tre Ryder (Home Body), Toby Huss (King of the Hill), , F. Murray Abraham (The White Lotus), Rich Sommer (Mad Men), and John Carroll Lynch (Zodiac) will be joining them.
A UK release date for White House Plumbers has not yet been announced, however it is expected to air on Sky Atlantic in the summer of 2023.
