A new teaser trailer has been released for the upcoming series of Conversations With Friends.
Adapted from Sally Rooney’s best-selling debut novel, the series follows the complicated relationship between college students Frances (newcomer Alison Oliver) and Bobbi (Sasha Lane, American Honey) and an older couple, Melissa (Jemima Kirke, Girls) and Nick (Joe Alwyn, The Favourite).
Twenty-one-year-old Frances is observant, cerebral, and sharp, while her ex-girlfriend, now best friend, Bobbi is self-assured, compelling, and outspoken. Despite breaking up three years ago, the pair remain inseparable and perform spoken word poetry together around Dublin. At one of their shows, they meet the older writer Melissa, who becomes enamoured by the pair.
Bobbi and Frances begin to spend time with Melissa and her husband Nick, a handsome but reserved actor. While Bobbi and Melissa flirt with each other openly, Frances and Nick embark on a secret passionate affair that is surprising to them both. Soon the intense affair begins to test the bond between Frances and Bobbi, forcing Frances to re-examine her selfhood and the friendship she holds so dear.
The 12-part series is directed by Lenny Abrahamson (Normal People) and Leanne Welham (The Trial of Christine Keeler) and produced by Element Pictures. Alice Birch (Normal People), Mark O’Halloran (Rialto), Meadhbh McHugh (Asking For It) and Susan Soon He Stanton (Succession) have adapted the novel for TV.
Conversations With Friends will premiere on BBC Three in the UK and RTÉ in Ireland in Spring 2022.
