ITV has commissioned a new drama The Walk-In, telling the true story of how a Neo-Nazi plot to kill an MP was foiled by an inside man.
Written by Jeff Pope (A Confession), the timely state-of-the-world five-part series poses the questions: what makes people fear and hate those who are different from themselves, and can someone’s view of the world be fundamentally changed?
Stephen Graham (Boiling Point) stars as activist Matthew Collins, a reformed Neo-Nazi now working as a journalist for the anti-racist organisation, Hope not Hate. Forced to flee the UK and go into hiding when he became a mole within the BNP during the 1990s, Collins returns to Britain to make a new life for himself.
Driven by the need to stop the radicalisation of young white men, he works to infiltrate a Far-Right Neo-Nazi group hell-bent on starting a race war, using moles, or ‘walk-ins’, to expose and fracture them.
Despite repeated attempts, Collins fails to break into the dangerous group that was able to continue relatively unchecked, until the horrific murder of MP Jo Cox brings their potential into sharp focus.
With the group being driven underground, becoming the first Far Right organisation to be banned by the government since the Second World War, Collins almost loses all hope of gaining information from within. Until a fateful email in March 2017 from someone claiming to be a member reveals another appalling plot to murder a second MP.
The drama also stars Jason Flemyng, Dean Charles Chapman, Leanne Best, Andrew Ellis and Christopher Coghill.
The Walk-In will premiere on ITV on Monday 3 October.
