Around 60 students, lecturers and industry practitioners gathered at the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television in Bradford for a breathtaking look at the latest technologies and consumer products that are revolutionising the way we view TV programmes and videos.

The venue was appropriate with John Logie Baird’s original 30 line mechanical TV system in one room with High Definition TV, the latest Pace Personal Video Recorder2go and HD set top box on display in our theatre.

Two industry leaders described how advancing digital technology is driving new programme delivery methods and consumer products.

David GilliesSimon Fell, Controller of Emerging Technologies, ITV gave a fascinating presentation describing some of ITV’s new programme delivery plans for the digital home, mobile phone and Personal Video Recorder markets.

IPTV (Internet Protocol TV), expanded Freeview channels and video podcasting were just some of the methods explained.
Access to on-demand high definition video programming on your TV, PVR and mobile phone anywhere in the world is just around the corner.

David Gillies Director of Technology at Pace Microtechnology explained how the consumer will benefit from the latest developments in HD Set top boxes and Personal Video Recorders in conjunction with in-home entertainment servers. Video downloads direct from your set-top box to your PVR are already here. Worldwide access to your set top box from a PVR will enable consumers to programme and download their favourite videos at any time.

‘It’s TV but not as we know it’ was the message from our speakers who gave us a fascinating glimpse into the not too distant future.
