ITVX has acquired the new HBO Max series Love & Death, starring Elizabeth Olsen as the notorious Candy Montgomery.
Love & Death is a new crime drama written by David E. Kelley, who won plaudits for his satirical whodunnit Big Little Lies (2017-2019).
The drama follows two church going families in smalltown Texas, the Montgomeries and the Gores. Candy Montgomery, a Texan housewife, was accused in 1980 of murdering Betty Gore in a crime of passion.
The two had met and become friends through the local church they regularly attended, but Gore became engaged in an extramarital affair with her husband Pat.
Lily Rabe and Jesse Plemons star as wife and husband Betty and Allan Gore, while Patrick Fugit plays Candy's husband Pat.
Directing the first four and final episodes of the six-part series is Lesli Linka. It is inspired by the book Evidence of Love: A True Story of Passion and Death in the Suburbs and a collection of articles from Texas Monthly ('Love & Death in Silicon Prairie,' Part I & II).
ITV Head of Content Acquisitions Sasha Breslau said: “We are thrilled to bring this scabrous, gripping series to ITVX viewers in the UK; get ready to be totally hooked!”
Alison Morris, SVP Television, Digital & Affiliate Distribution at Warner Bros. Discovery, said: “HBO Max’s Love & Death is a great addition to the line-up of premium dramas based on real life stories on ITV and ITVX.
"I hope that UK audiences are going to be as fascinated with the twists and turns of this story as I am. David and Lesli have done a brilliant job of finding the humanity in this most extraordinary set of events, helped by stellar performances from an amazing cast.”
