Actors Matthew Rhys and Matthew Goode will explore the world of wine in a new series acquired by ITV.
The pair set out from their base in the Italian countryside to uncover some of the best wines the country has to offer, and the stories behind them.
Joining the performers for The Wine Show are wine experts Joe Fattorini and Amelia Singer, who will guide the novice wine drinkers through some of the world’s finest drinks. Gizzi Erskine will also act as a food expert in the US.
Speaking about the series, Downton Abbey star Matthew Goode said, “Matthew Rhys and I had so much fun pootling around Italy garnering more and more information on this sensational liquid … Actually, the word ‘fun’ doesn't even really come close.”
Twelve of the world’s leading chefs will appear in the show, cooking up the perfect meal to accompany their favourite wine.
The show aims to be entertaining and informative as it looks at the extraordinary landscapes where vines grow, and the Matthews meet the passionate wine makers and growers who rarely see the spotlight.
Angela Jain, Director of Digital Channels and Acquisitions at ITV said the broadcaster was “thrilled” to pick up the series, adding, “The show is a joyful romp through wonderful landscapes, tasting great wine, enjoying fantastic food and all in the company of our charming, witty and vivacious hosts, the two Matthews.”
Matthew Rhys (The Americans, Death Comes to Pemberley) said the show would help viewers “buy better, especially for high days, holidays and Christmas.
“I dare anyone to watch this show and not fall in love with Matthew Goode and wine ... in that order.”
The show will be broadcast on ITV and ITV4 later this spring.
