K-pop dramedy Gangnam Project is coming to CBBC and iPlayer.
The show follows 16-year-old Hannah Shin (Julia Kim Caldwell), a young Canadian-Korean woman looking to connect with her heritage. She travels to South Korea to tutor at the prestigious K-pop academy OME. After catching the eye of the CEO, Hannah’s life is turned upside down, when she becomes a trainee determined with living up to her potential.
Her older brother Leo is along for the ride, as he learns to take control of his life to stop being such a slacker. A devastating family secret is also uncovered.
The show features an original soundtrack composed by August Rigo, who has written for BTS, Justin Bieber and One Direction.
"For me, K-Pop was a way to connect to the Korean heritage on my mum’s side and I love how it’s been a bridge for people to discover more about Korean culture,” said Julia Kim Caldwell. “I’m so excited for anyone who’s always been a fan of K-pop, like myself, to get to live out their trainee fantasy with Hannah’s journey and for newcomers to fall in love with everything K-Pop. Being a part of Gangnam Project has been a dream come true for me and I can’t wait for everyone to see it!”
Gangnam Project is co-commissioned by Canadian outfit CBC Kids and CBBC. The first episode will air on CBBC and be available on iPlayer on 26 February 2024.
