John Hardie was been appointed chair of the RTS Board of Trustees, replacing Mike Darcey, who resigned when he left the television sector to become CEO of News International.

Glasgow-born John Hardie joined ITN in June 2009 as CEO. Prior to joining ITN, he was executive vice-president and managing director of Walt Disney Television EMEA from 2001 to 2009. He built Disney Channel from a boutique pay-TV channel in 9 million homes generating $200m in revenues to become by far the most successful kids' TV business in Europe with distribution in 44 million homes, generating $500m in revenues. 

Between 1997 and 2001 he was marketing and commercial director of ITV Network Ltd.
