ITV has commissioned an adaptation of Death At The White Hart, the debut novel from Broadchurch creator and former Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall.

Things are going swimmingly in the fictional Dorset village of Fleetcombe, until its pub landlord is murdered. It falls to Detective Nicola Bridge to find the killer, even if it means exposing resentment and deceit simmering beneath the surface of the community.

The novel is part of a two-book deal, and will be published on 27 March 2025 in the UK and 10 June 2025 in America.

“I know the adaptation, with Chris at the helm, will make an unmissable drama,” said Polly Hill, director of drama at ITV. “It’s all the more special for us that Chris returns to Dorset once again with this very British murder and wonderful new investigation team.”

“Polly’s dynamic vote of confidence in Death At The White Hart made it a no-brainer to bring the novel to the screen with ITV,” said Chibnall. “Within this cliffhanger-packed murder mystery sits a specifically British story about how people live their lives right now. There’s no better home for it than ITV.”

Death At The White Hart will be broadcast on ITV1 and STV, and stream on ITVX and STV Player.
