UKTV’s comedy channel Gold has commissioned a new series of The Interviews, adding to its slate of original comedy.
The show follows the career of some of our best loved celebrities from the world of comedy and showbiz.
Narrated by Tamsin Greig (Episodes, Friday Night Dinner), this series will look at the lives of comic actor Peter Sellers, the incorrigible Frankie Howerd, Barry Humphries and his larger-than-life alter ego Dame Edna Everage, king of Saturday night Sir Bruce Forsyth, comedy great Kenny Everett, and much loved national treasure Julie Walters.
“Fascinating and funny but often very moving too,” said UKTV’s Iain Coyle, “these documentaries are a unique opportunity to get some perspective, and celebrate, some of the amazing comedic talent that I grew up with.”
The Interviews combines frank interviews with entertaining and insightful archive material from British chat shows and elsewhere and offers a unique insight into the lives of these treasured characters.
John Quinn, Executive Producer for North One, added “The first person perspective makes for some genuinely ascinating insights. From Peter Sellers’ insistence that he was dull – whilst, ironically, baring the darkest secrets of his soul – to Barry Humphries explaining the bizarre dynamic between himself and his most famous creation, Dame Edna Everage”
