Corfu-based family drama The Durrells has been commissioned for a fourth series, following the success of the previous series.

Based on conservationist Gerald Durrell’s series of books documenting his family’s time in Corfu in the 1930s, the forthcoming series will be written by BAFTA award nominee Simon Nye (Men Behaving Badly).

The new series will see Keeley Hawes (The Missing, Line of Duty) reprise her role as the family’s matriarch, Louisa. The rest of the cast including Josh O’Connor (God’s Own Country), Callum Woodhouse (Cold Feet),  Daisy Waterstone (And Then There Were None) and Milo Parker (Mr Holmes) will also return as Louisa’s high-spirited children. Greek actor Alexis Georgoulis (My Life In Ruins) will reprise his role as love interest and chauffeur, Spiros.

The chemistry between Louisa and Spiros was pivotal to the third series finale and fans will hoping for a full-blown romance, despite the return of the latter’s wife.

The fourth series of the RTS award-nominated The Durrells will be produced by Sid Gentle Films and executive produced by the company's CEO Sally Woodward Gentle and Managing Director Lee Morris, together with Simon Nye and Keeley Hawes.

Sally Woodward Gentle said: “We couldn’t be more delighted to be making more of The Durrells with our exceptional team and on the magical island of Corfu – it is a dream come true.”
