Gurassa appointed as Channel 4 chairman

Channel 4's new chairman is Charles Gurassa

EasyJet deputy chairman Charles Gurassa has been named as the new Chairman of Channel 4.

According to an announcement by Ofcom, he will join the Channel 4 board on 28 January, replacing outgoing Chairman Lord Burns.

Gurassa is the former chairman of Virgin Mobile, LoveFilm and others, in addition to his role at EasyJet, and also serves as a trustee of English Heritage.

He said “I am excited to be joining Channel 4, which has a unique place in UK broadcasting. I look forward to exploring Channel 4’s important contribution in a rapidly changing sector.”

 

 

Ofcom Chairman Dame Patricia Hodgson said “I am delighted that we have appointed a Chairman of Charles’ calibre to Channel 4. He brings with his a wealth of experience built up across a broad range of sectors.”

She also offered her thanks to outgoing Chairman Lord Burns, praising his “tremendous contribution to the success of Channel 4.”

The three-year appointment has been approved by Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport John Whittingdale MP.
