BBC Two has released first-look images of Emily Blunt as an Aristocratic Englishwoman in The English, a thrilling new western from writer and director Hugo Blick.

Blunt can be seen starring as Lady Cornelia Locke opposite Chaske Spencer (best known for his part in the Twilight franchise) as the aptly-named Pawnee ex-cavalry scout Eli Whipp. The two come together in 1890 to cross the violent, mid-American landscape “built on dreams and blood.”

They both have a clear sense of their destiny but neither is aware that it is rooted in a shared past.

Terrifying obstacles litter their path and will test their physical and psychological limits, but as they overcome them one by one, they draw closer to their ultimate destination: the newly established town of Hoxem, Wyoming.

It is here, however, that after an investigation by local Sheriff Robert Marshall (Stephen Rea) and young widow Martha Myers (Valerie Pachner) into a series of macabre murders, their shared roots are unearthed and they have to face an inevitable future.

Rafe Spall (Trying), Tom Hughes (Victoria), Toby Jones (Marvellous) and recent Oscar-nominee Ciarán Hinds (Belfast) also make the star-studded cast.

The English will air on BBC Two in November 2022.
