Dermot O’Leary is to host a new Saturday night entertainment show with Top Gear enigma The Stig.
BBC One’s The Getaway Car will see couples compete in a range of driving challenges to win a cash prize, and will test the relationships of the spouses, siblings and friends who take part.
O’Leary, who recently quit The X Factor after eight years presenting the talent show, was among the stars who had been rumoured to front the next Top Gear series, with the job eventually going to Chris Evans.
The announcement follows the news that BBC One’s most recent Saturday night entertainment show, Prized Apart, will not be returning for a second series.
It is hoped The Getaway Car will prove popular with international audiences, as Top Gear has done. Tracy Forsyth, Genre Director of Factual Entertainment & Entertainment content at BBC Worldwide said:
“We’re hugely excited about this show and its potential to follow other successful British TV formats onto an international stage. With an iconic character from one of our biggest global brands already on board, we know audiences everywhere will be curious to see what’s under the bonnet of The Getaway Car.”
Twelve hour-long episodes of the show, which is a BBC in-house Entertainment production, will air in 2016.
