Dedicated journalists are working day in day out to bring us the stories that matter to the North East and the Border region. Sometimes they exceed expectations — with outstanding pieces of journalism, agenda-setting scoops or original investigations. This award recognises high standards in video journalism produced by an outstanding individual who may be working on-line or in traditional TV news broadcasts.
The Judges considered news values, writing, originality and production techniques as well as an understanding of the audience. They wanted to know why this journalist’s work is outstanding. What was the context — did they secure the story everyone else wanted? Did it set the national news agenda? Did they present the story in an original, stand-out way, which deserves to be recognised? Maybe they demonstrated specialist expertise through a continuing narrative with analysis and context over a period of time?
The journalist could nominate themselves, or be nominated by others.
The nominees were:
Hannah McNulty – ITV Border
Dan Farthing – BBC North East & Cumbria
Philippa Goymer – BBC North East & Cumbria
Guest Presenters: Jon Morrison & Kenny Doughty ('Vera') and David Hall (Northumbrian Water)
Winner:
DAN FARTHING
