A report by the BBC into the portrayal of gender on TV revealed that viewers want to see more more '²eal' women on our screens.

The report showed that audiences also want fewer scantily clad representations of women on TV.

The findings reflected that news and documentaries in particular were failing to portray enough older or more '.ormal' women.

However female presenters such as Gabby Logan and Clare Balding were ensuring sports coverage had high profile women on board.

The report called Blurred Lines: Contemporary Attitudes to Gender Portrayal in the Media surveyed thousands of people with only a quarter able to correctly say that men outnumbered women on TV two to one.

The study also found that more women watch TV than men.

David Bunker, head of audience research at the BBC told the Guardian that "It's not at the forefront of people's minds when they sit down to watch television. They are more interested in thinking, '„id I enjoy that?' than, 'Were the genders equally represented?'T
