A British man narrowly escapes death in a highspeed chase with a huge tank truck in the Australian outback. He later wakes in hospital, with no recollection of who he is and who he’s running from.
The six episodes will see The Man embark on a perilous journey of self-discovery, full of twists and turns. Unidentifiable enemies deny him any respite, relentless in their pursuit through the unforgiving outback and beyond.
The black comedy drama is filled with shock and surprise, as the action moves across the globe from Australia to Singapore to Bali.
“The Tourist is a departure from anything we’ve written before,” said Harry and Jack Williams, Writers and Managing Directors of Two Brothers Pictures. “It isn’t an easy show to categorise - so we won’t.
“We are, however, hugely excited to have Chris Sweeney on board as director, and to be making this for the BBC.”
Piers Wenger, Controller of BBC Drama, added: “The Tourist has one of the boldest and most brain-twistingly brilliant conceits which thriller fans will have experienced in a long time.
“We are delighted to be home to this inspired and utterly original idea.”
The Tourist will begin filming later this year.
