Matthew Goode (Downton Abbey) leads a new detective series for Netflix.
After an attack left his partner paralysed and another police officer dead, Carl Morck (Goode) is wracked with guilt. Taking his mind off it is a new assignment as the first ever head of a police division devoted to cold cases. Let’s just hope he’s as good as he thinks he is.
Trainspotting alumni Kelly Macdonald and Shirley Henderson also star in this adaptation of Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen’s novels.
The Better Sister
Thursday
Prime Video
Jessica Biel (Candy) and Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games) are two estranged sisters brought together by the murder of one of their husbands.
The killing shines an unwanted light on both their lives, which are best kept hidden. Chloe’s (Biel) husband was also Nicky’s (Banks) ex, creating a dynamic as complex as it is uncomfortable. Can the two put decades’ worth of animosity aside to protect their family?
The Power of Parker
Friday
BBC One, 9.30pm
Game of Thrones star Conleth Hill swaps Westeros for Stockport in the second series of the wheeler-dealer sitcom.
The year is 1992: the Royal Family is dealing with its annus horribilis, and up north, things aren’t going much better. Still, there’s no time to worry about that: electric goods don’t sell themselves (even very reasonably priced ones).
In series two, Martin Parker (Hill) and Diane (Rosie Cavaliero, That Christmas) are separated. Diane is running the shop, and Martin is determined to win his reputation back. It’s hard to say who has the tougher job.
Lulu Is a Rhinoceros
Friday
Apple TV+
In this children’s cartoon, everyone looks at Lulu and sees a bulldog. Everyone, that is, except Lulu. When she looks in the mirror, it’s a rhino who smiles back at her, and she’s determined to let everyone know.
Lulu embarks on a mission of self-acceptance and kindness. As she says in the trailer:
“Being a rhino isn’t about how I look, it’s about helping others.”
She doesn’t let anything stand in her way, and eventually even manages to impress the hipsters, who are crows. Obviously.
And Just Like That…
Friday
Sky Comedy, 2.00am
The Sex and the City sequel returns for a third outing.
Series two ended with Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Aidan Shaw (John Corbett) going on a five-year break. We couldn’t help but wonder if time moves faster in New York, because the series three trailer suggests the two are very much back together. Well, maybe. It’s complicated.
