Apple TV+ to dramatise Jennette McCurdy’s best-selling memoir, with Jennifer Aniston attached to star.
Child actor Jennette McCurdy looked like she had it all – she played a leading role in iCarly and got her own spin-off show Sam & Cat. She was a Nickelodeon kid at Nickelodeon’s peak. She released albums, featured in the top shows in the early 2000s (think Zoey 101 and Malcolm in the Middle) and won four Kids’ Choice Awards.
It wasn’t until the release of her one-woman show and subsequent memoir, provocatively titled I’m Glad My Mom Died, that the dark side of her career was revealed.
The memoir sold over 200,000 copies in its first week of release, and was a major topic of conversation across YouTube, TikTok and Instagram due to its dissection of McCurdy’s abusive Mormon upbringing, relationship with co-star Ariana Grande, and mistreatment on Nickelodeon sets by someone she refers to as ‘The Creator’.
Jennifer Aniston has officially signed on to play McCurdy’s mother in the 10-part series.
McCurdy will serve as writer, executive producer and showrunner alongside Ramy writer Ari Katcher. Aniston currently stars in one of Apple TV’s most popular dramas, The Morning Show.
Bad Sisters’ Sharon Horgan will also executive produce through her production company Merman, alongside Stacy Greenberg.
I’m Glad My Mom Died doesn’t yet have a release date set, but will air on Apple TV+.
