Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio is to write and executive produce Trinity, a new thriller for Netflix starring Richard Madden (Game of Thrones) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Loki).

Commander Katherine Decker (Mbatha-Raw) has made a name for herself as second-in-command of the nuclear submarine USS Kansas. She soon finds herself in even murkier waters when she enters the world of politics.

Deckers becomes involved with Webb Preston (Madden), a charismatic, crusading defence secretary whose drive for innovation has Westminster worried. When the two become entangled, Decker discovers there may be more to Preston than meets the eye. Is he at the heart of a conspiracy? Are his enemies right not to trust him?

The eight-part series will reunite Mercurio and Madden, who worked together on thriller series Bodyguard.

Mercurio will act as showrunner for Trinity, and will executive produce the show alongside Jimmy Mulville for Hat Trick. The first two episodes will be written and directed by Michael Cuesta, known for his work directing Dexter and Daredevil: Born Again.
