Hugh Laurie (House) is to star in Apple TV+ thriller The Wanted Man, written and created by George Kay, who was also behind Idris Elba-helmed thriller Hijack.

In the new eight-part series, Laurie plays Felix Carmichael, head of The Capital, a British crime syndicate that has made its boss untouchable for the last two decades. A twist of fate lands Carmichael in prison, though, where he realises that someone close to him has committed the ultimate act of betrayal.

With Carmichael’s criminal empire at risk, he makes it his mission to escape. In the outside world, he has business interests to protect, and revenge to take. Fail, and the last 20 years will have been for nothing. Succeed, and he’ll be a wanted man yet again.

Also starring are Thandiwe Newton (Westworld), Fionn Whitehead (Dunkirk), Gina McKee (My Policeman), Hazel Doupe (Kathleen Is Here), Elliot Heffernan (Blitz) and Stephen Dillane (Game of Thrones).

Kay will also executive produce the series, as well as Willow Grylls and Matt Sandford. It will be directed by Jakob Verbruggen, who previously directed episodes of House of Cards and Black Mirror.
